Barbican String Quartet                  16th Mar 2020 St. Augustine’s Church Map

A welcome return to Luton from this excellent young string quartet that first played for us two years ago. Winners of the International Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition they are fast becoming regular favourites with audiences throughout Europe. Alongside Mozart and Beethoven they offer the fifth quartet of Béla Bartók, a work full of the Hungarian composer's trade mark style - the eerie 'night music' of the two slow movements, the folk music inspired central movement, all part of the arch-like structure that underpins this exciting score.

‘…gusto, comradeship and sharp attack.’

‘…blazing and unusually forthright performance.’
