Barbican String Quartet Cancelled -
A welcome return to Luton from this excellent young string quartet that first played for us two years ago. Winners of the International Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition they are fast becoming regular favourites with audiences throughout Europe. Alongside the perhaps more familiar repertoire of Haydn and Brahms they offer the first quartet of György Ligeti, a work inspired by fellow Hungarian Béla Bartók and in particular his eerie 'night music'. In the rewarding acoustic of St Augustine’s this will surely be a timely reminder of the thrilling sound of music played by a first class string quartet.
‘…gusto, comradeship and sharp attack.’
