Emma Johnson & John Lenehan

‘Johnson is superb.’ Sunday Times

A clarinet and piano recital by two of our country’s finest chamber musicians. Even in such a wonderfully varied programme a highlight will surely be Poulenc’s poignant late Clarinet Sonata; the composer died just days before he was due to give the première in New York with the dedicatee Benny Goodman, his place for that first performance eventually taken by Leonard Bernstein. And how fascinating to hear a piece by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s distinguished father William. A new work by rising star composer Samuel Bordoli has also been especially commissioned to launch this season of Music on Mondays.

‘She walks onto a concert platform and suddenly transforms herself into an expressive instrument of sublime beauty.’ Guardian
