Rufus Frowde & Anthony Brown         14th November 2022         St. Mary’s Church Map

This concert is part of a plan to make a recording of new choral music by two locally based composers, Rufus Frowde and Richard Sisson.

Before being appointed to his present role as Organist and Assistant Director of Music at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, Rufus was the Organ Scholar at Merton College, Oxford.  As a part of that College’s 750th anniversary celebrations in 2014 Richard was commissioned to write a new anthem, which was his setting of Gerard Manley Hopkins’s Pied Beauty.  In turn an alumnus of the College then further commissioned Richard to write a Folk Mass for St Nicholas in Arundel.  These two works feature in this concert and are remarkable for their combination of saxophone with the more usual forces of SATB choir and organ.  The programme for the concert will also present Rufus’s own recent choral music.  All the material to be recorded will benefit enormously from being prepared for a live performance in the beautiful setting of St Mary’s Church, Luton.

The project is being sponsored by the John Booth Charitable Foundation.
