Henschel Quartet

‘If you ever get the opportunity to hear the Henschel Quartet in recital take it. String quartet playing rarely gets any better than this.’ Seen and Heard

As this internationally renowned quartet celebrate their 20th anniversary we are delighted to welcome them back to Luton. As part of our Celebrating British Composers theme they have kindly agreed to play Benjamin Britten’s third quartet. This is one of the composer’s last works, the final unresolved movement of which is a lyrical portrait of Venice drawn from material used in his late opera Death in Venice. As Norbert Brainin, the leader of the Amadeus Quartet for whom the work was written, said of it: “Ben wrote his own death.”
