Simon Lepper (piano) 26th July 2021 St. Mary’s Church Map
Hosted by one of the world’s leading collaborative pianists, Simon Lepper, this concert is a showcase for some of the brightest young vocal talents currently studying at London’s Royal College of Music. To open the programme each of the four singers will perform solo repertoire. They will then combine in concerted quartet items accompanied by piano duet, Simon Lepper joined at the keyboard by the Chairman of Luton Music, Richard Sisson.
Brahms’s Liebeslieder Walzer is written in a vernacular tradition, epigrammatic love poems set to the lilting refinement of Viennese waltzes. As a companion piece the artists offer a new arrangement of pop songs in waltz time from the 60s and 70s, including Delilah, Norwegian Wood and The Last Waltz.
The programme also includes Fauré’s Dolly Suite for piano duet, the opening Berceuse of which will be familiar to audience members of a particular vintage as the gentle theme tune to BBC Radio’s Listen With Mother!
‘Pianist Simon Lepper… played throughout with great sensitivity and verve.’
