Slávka Vernerová-Pěchočová    16th Oct 2017 at Luton Sixth Form College Map

Born in the Czech Republic piano virtuoso Slávka Vernerová-Pěchočová brings a natural authority to the music of Eastern Europe. She is a recognized expert in the music of her homelands. In 1996 in Hradec Králové she won the International Smetana Piano Competition and the subject of her doctoral thesis was the music of Leoš Janáček. She is visiting Luton twice in our current series, firstly with this dazzling solo programme and then returning in 2018 with the Dvořák Piano Quartet. After the Bohemian treasures of the first half, the remainder of her recital is given over to the glittering mosaic of Schumann’s Carnaval, a pianistic tour de force.
