Specialists in the great canon of music from Austria and Germany in the 18th and 19th Centuries, the Vienna Mozart Trio will surely bring a most authentic voice to this Classical and Romantic repertoire.
The pair of Mozart trios, written in 1786, is typical of the success the composer was at last enjoying in Vienna. Regularly performing such works as these throughout the city, his stature as a composer of genius was also being established by the enthusiastic reception of his latest opera The Marriage of Figaro.
Robert Schumann’s first piano trio was in part inspired by his wife Clara’s own trio, written a year before. In this work he was exploring new technical possibilities offered by the developing pianoforte. It also shows his continuing love affair with the rigours of contrapuntal Baroque masters such as Bach, imbuing those earlier traditional forms with his own increasingly chromatic harmonic language.
